Abstract

The research is aimed at researching: (1) the forms of English adjectival construction and (2) the distribution of English adjectival construction in a sentence used in The Prince and The pauper by Mark twain based on structural approach especially syntactic structure of modification. The research method is using descriptive qualitative as the type of research, and then analyzing the adjectival construction based on structural approach. The data are collected from The Prince and The pauper by Mark twain by using documentation. The study shows that there are two forms construction that function as adjectival of noun phrase: (1) single, they are: noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. (2), complex, they are: noun phrase, verb phrase (participle phrase and infinitive phrase), adjective phrase, adverbial phrase, prepositional phrase, and adjective clause. There are also 3 distributions of English adjectival construction: (1) premodifier, (2) postmodifier, and (3) premodifier and postmodifier.
