Abstract

Introduction: an increase in glucose in the blood is due to factors that inhibit insulin action or decrease the amount of insulin. Perception of pain has been identified in several studies as a significant factor influencing self-care practices, psychological distress, and other health outcomes among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objective : to determine the relationship between perception of pain and fasting blood sugar status faced by patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the internal medicine polyclinic of Moewardi General Hospital. Method: the research used is cross sectional with quantitative descriptive. The research was conducted at the internal medicine polyclinic at Moewardi General Hospital with a population of 1221 and 93 respondents were taken using the slovin formula which was then rounded up to 100 respondents who were taken using the Quota Sampling technique. The data analysis used was chi square. Results: The characteristics of the respondents were that some respondents aged 61-70 years were 39%, and the majority were female by 57%. Most of the respondents had primary school education (41%) and did not work (35%). The majority of respondents did not receive prior information about diabetes mellitus (76%). BMI in the majority of respondents was normal (61%) and had diabetes mellitus mostly at 1-5 years (68%). The results of the chi square test as many as 100 respondents participated in the study with 37 respondents having a controlled GDP value with a positive perception of illness, and as many as 20 respondents had an uncontrolled GDP value with a negative perception of illness. The results of the P-Value obtained a value of 0.003 which is <0.05. Conclusion: it was found that the value of fasting blood sugar in diabetes mellitus patients at Moewardi Hospital was mostly controlled and had a positive perception level value. The general public and patients with diabetes mellitus should be able to pay more attention and increase positive perceptions in the treatment of diabetes mellitus
