Abstract

Self-medication is a self-medication effort to treat minor ailments using over-the-counter and limited over-the-counter drugs without a doctor's prescription. Self-medication is used to treat mild symptoms. Self-medication can be a problem if it is not balanced with good knowledge about drug use. The purpose of this study was to find out the description and relationship of knowledge, attitudes and behavior of self-medication students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The population in this study were all students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, totaling 3,167 students. The sample in this study was at least 355 students. This research is a descriptive study with an observational (non-experimental) method. The research method used is cross sectional. The sampling technique was carried out by accidental sampling method. The research instrument was a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form. Retrieval of data by filling out a Google Form that has been tested for validity and reliability. This questionnaire was filled out by 360 respondents who had self-medicated in the last 6 months. This research starts from the beginning of December 2022 until mid-January 2023. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test using SPSS version 25. The results showed that respondents had good levels of knowledge, attitudes and self-medication behavior. The knowledge of 35.3% of respondents is quite adequate, the attitude of 67.5% of respondents is classified as good and the behavior of 61.1% of respondents is classified as good. Based on the results of the Rank Spearman test, the respondents' knowledge and attitudes towards self-medication were related (p value = 0.00). Knowledge and behavior are also interconnected (p value = 0.039).
