Abstract

Literature is a written or spoken text which is formed by using partly or completely symbolic language that gives human life new meaning. It is written or spoken text since it has different genres which are either made to be read such as fiction and a short story or to be spoken such as poetry and drama. The objective of the research was: to know how the teachers’ awareness of literature in English Foreign Language material at secondary school Sragen Regency. The research subjects are English teachers at Secondary School Sragen Regency. The type of research was descriptive qualitative. The data were collected through observation and a questionnaire guide. Findings show that all of the teachers had the same awareness of literature as English material. They were given a “realized” response toward the awareness of literature in English material. Kinds of literature material in English material for secondary school are containing Poetry, Drama, Narrative text, novels, songs, and Short stories. Teachers’ perception of the literature material is an important thing in English material for secondary school. Role play and drama were activities for growing up literature sense students. Students can use their imagination to build up the scenario or narration through the literature. Those activities were important not only for the students but also for teachers. The teacher had the mindset that literature can be fun for students through the literature. Teachers believed that the subject materials were fun and interesting for students. It can be received by students well.
