Abstract

School principals have low awareness of responsibility in carrying out their duties as managers, supervisors and entrepreneur and there are several principals who only stand out in carrying out one task only. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the principal’s duties as manager, supervisor and entrepreneur at SMP Muhammadiyah PK Kota Barat Surakarta dan SMP IT Al Anis Kartasura. This research uses a qualitative paradigm and is a type of field research that is descriptive in nature with the school principal as the subject.This study used a case study approach with data collection techniques used include interviews, observations and documentation.This research uses inductive analysis that comes from facts and data found in the field and then adapts it to theory. The results of the study reveal the characteristics of the principal’s duties as a manager, namely that the two principals have similarities in managing school programs, annual work plans, medium-term work plans and as well as annual program evaluation, managing teachers by diving teacher tasks, managing students from acceptance to graduation, managing the curriculum by developing curriculum content that is appropriate to the current state of the school and the situation. The characteristics of the principal’s duties as supervisors are that the two principals carry out planning of academic supervision activities by forming a supervision team, carrying out academic supervision activities starting from examining educational administration, and following up on the results of supervision such as involving teachers in training and training activities. The characteristics of the principal’s duties as an entrepreneur are that the principal innovates schools by developing curriculum, developing school facilities and infrastructure, motivating school members by communicating, developing the entrepreneurial spirit formed through habituation of extracurricular activities.
