Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is pain in the lower abdomen during menstruation and is accompanied by other symptoms such as dizziness and vomiting. Dysmenorrhea can harm women and have an impact on women's health and quality of life. Consuming fast food that is high in sugar, saturated fat, and sodium can cause prostaglandins to accumulate and cause dysmenorrhea. The increased prostaglandin hormone causes the muscles in the womb to contract and cause pain. This research is to find out the relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and the incidence of dysmenorrhea in nutrition students in 2019 Muhammadiyah University Surakarta. The type of research used is an observational study with a cross sectional design. Fast food consumption data for the last 1 month used the FFQ form and the dysmenorrhea incidence questionnaire. This study used a sample of 70 people. Simple random sampling technique was used for sample selection and the chi square test was used as a statistical test. Fast food consumption frequency data in the frequent category is 81% with a frequency (≥8x/week). Fast food that is often consumed is fried chicken, packaged drinks and instant noodles. Dysmenorrhea with a moderate level of pain with a scale of 4-6 obtained a result of 41.4%. Bivariate analysis obtained RR values of 10.9 and CI (4.0-29.5). p value =( 0.001). There is a significant relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and the incidence of dysmenorrhea in nutrition students in 2019 Muhammadiyah University Surakarta.
