Abstract

The aims of this study were (1) to describe the positive emotions of the main character in Honey Dee's Rooftop Buddies novel, and (2) to describe the negative emotions of the main character in Honey Dee's Rooftop Buddies novel. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. The data in this study are in the form of words, sentences, paragraphs in the novel. The data source is in the form of literary works, namely the novel that will be researched under the title Rooftop Buddies by Honey Dee which was published in 2018 by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama and totals 264 pages. The data collection process in this study used library techniques, listening techniques, and note-taking techniques. After the data was collected, it was then analyzed using descriptive techniques and validated using the theory triangulation technique by comparing it with other theories. The results of this study indicate that in the novel there are (1) positive emotions which include: love, joy, and enjoyment and negative emotions including: guilt, self-punishment, shame, sadness, hatred, surprise, anger, fear, disappointment , and annoyed, and (2) Honey Dee's Rooftop Buddies novel has the potential to be used as teaching material in class X, namely basic competence 3.18 Analyzing the contents of at least one fiction book and one non-fiction book that has been read and 3.11 Analyzing the message from one fiction book that has been read and can be seen from Permendikbud Number 37 of 2018. In the independent curriculum, Honey Dee's novel Rooftop Buddies also has the potential to be used as teaching material in phase F (generally for class XI and XII SMA/MA/Package C).
