Abstract

The MotoGP International Circuit in Kuta Village is one of the mega projects of the Mandalika Special Economic Zone. In the process of building the Mandalika Circuit, it is not as smooth as it seems due to land disputes with the surrounding community. One of the solutions proposed by the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation is to relocate 120 families whose land was evicted to HPL 94 and the relocation location is better known as Ebunut Hijrah Hamlet. The existence of this relocation caused the community to change their place of residence because their houses were evicted and built a new life so as to allow their socio-economic characteristics to change and have an impact on socio-economic conditions. This study aims to (1) identify the socio-economic characteristics of the evicted population before and after the construction of the Mandalika Circuit in Kuta Village, (2) Analyzing the impact of the construction of the Mandalika Circuit on the socio-economic conditions of the evicted population in Kuta Village. Sampling was done by purposive sampling method. Data collection was carried out through observation and questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis methods and spatial interaction analysis. The results showed that the construction of the Mandalika Circuit affected the socio-economic characteristics of the evicted population, where the dominant socio-economic characteristic was the type of work, there were 87% of the people whose type of work had changed after being relocated. The change in the type of work has an influence on other characteristics. In addition, the construction of the Mandalika Circuit has had positive and negative impacts on the socio-economic conditions of the people of Ebunut Hijrah Hamlet with a percentage comparison of positive and negative impacts, namely 40% and 60%. In social conditions, the dominant positive impact is adequate public facilities with a percentage of 38%, while the dominant negative impact is that environmental conditions do not allow farming with a percentage of 51%. On the other hand, in economic conditions the dominant positive impact was 29% of the people working as project labourers, while the dominant negative impact was that 42% of the people lost their livelihoods. Besides that, the construction of the circuit also had positive and negative impacts on the types of work of the people of Ebunut Hijrah Hamlet.
