Abstract

Since December 2019, Covid-19 emerged which originated in Wuhan, China and became a pandemic that has spread throughout the world including Indonesia. This pandemic has greatly impacted the socio-economic conditions of the community, including street vendors in the Kebumen square area. This study aims to examine the characteristics of street vendors, analyze the socio-economic impact and survival strategies of street vendors during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Kebumen Square area. The variables in this study are age, number of dependents, trading time, education, income, expenses, impact of Covid-19, and strategy. This research method uses a survey method, the sampling method used in this study is the saturated sampling method with 72 samples, the data collection method in this study is the survey method using a questionnaire, while the analytical method in this study uses table analysis, descriptive analysis, and geographic analysis using a spatial approach. The results showed that: (1) the socio-economic characteristics of street vendors in Kebumen square, namely, the age of street vendors is still classified as productive age, which ranges from 20 -50 years, the majority of street vendors' last education is junior high and high school, the majority of family dependents are 2 people by 33%, the majority of street vendors' income before the pandemic was IDR 3,000,000/month. (2) The impact of Covid-19 caused the level of street vendors' welfare to decline because the majority of street vendors' income decreased by 75% from IDR 3,000,000/month to IDR 750,000/month. (3) The survival strategy adopted by most of the street vendors in the Kebumen square during the pandemic was by finding additional jobs such as raising livestock, farming, gardening, and being motorcycle taxi drivers.
