Abstract

The increase in the population of Surakarta City is directly proportional to the increase in the volume of waste at the Putri Cempo Mojosongo Surakarta Final Disposal Site (TPA). The lack of public awareness in handling waste management causes an overload at the TPA. The solution in handling waste is not just PLTSa, but the role of the community and waste management institutions is highly expected. From these problems, it is necessary to have a waste management education center facility for the community to provide an understanding of the importance of waste management, which is clear that every human activity will produce waste. The Waste Management Education Center not only provides educational facilities in terms of learning materials, but also provides waste processing facilities that can be accessed by the public with a permit. Empowering the local community is the goal after providing processing facilities as well as being an example for visitors in handling waste in residential areas. With various types of waste in the TPA, the waste treatment that will be designed will only be based on the five most common types of waste, namely organic, plastic, paper, glass, and medical masks which have become a necessity at this time. The design concept aims to be able to change people's behavior towards waste, using an approach that is felt to be effective, namely the Behavioral and Environmental Architectural Approach, indirectly forcing people to behave according to the environment through architecture.
