Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-adjustment and social support with culture shock in overseas students of the Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta batch 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021. This study uses a correlational quantitative approach with data collection tools in the form of scales, including the self-adjustment scale. , social support scale, and culture shock scale. The subjects in this study were overseas students of the Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta batch 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 as many as 235. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The analysis used was multiple linear regression using SPPS software. Based on the results of the major hypothesis by the researchers, it can be concluded that there is a significant negative relationship between self-adjustment and social support and culture shock for overseas students. Then the first minor hypothesis proposed by the researcher can be concluded that there is a significant negative relationship between self-adjustment and culture shock. The second minor hypothesis concluded that there was a significant negative relationship between support and culture shock. Then for the effective contribution of the independent variable, it can be seen from the Adjusted R Square (R2) value of 0.340 which can be interpreted as the contribution of the two independent variables in influencing culture shock as the dependent variable of 34% with details of self-adjustment by 25%, and 9% social support. . While the remaining 66% is influenced by other factors outside the study.
