Abstract

The Special Region of Yogyakarta is one of the provinces visited by many tourists from domestic and foreign countries. Yogyakarta Province has the potential to become a tourist attraction such as nature tourism, history, culture, culinary, education, and others. This province has many large rivers such as the Progo and Opak rivers. There is a legend that Yogyakarta will prosper if the Progo River and the Opak River are united. The unification of the Progo River and the Opak River was realized due to the construction of the Selokan Mataram. The Selokan Mataram is one of the historical relics in Yogyakarta. Selokan Mataram was built in 1944 which was the Japanese colonial period. The construction of the Selokan Mataram aims to prevent the people of Yogyakarta from romusha (forced labor) set by the Japanese to help Japan win the war. Although it has a long and exciting history and is supported by quite beautiful natural potential, this place is not maximized for recreational purposes. The design method used is to analyze theories regarding the review of recreational areas, rivers, waterfronts, neo-vernacular architecture, and case studies. In addition, examine the Sleman Regency Regional Regulation Number 13 of 2021 concerning the Sleman Regency RTRW and DIY Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2019 concerning the DIY RTRW. The design results are in the form of a radial mass arrangement pattern, main facilities, supporting facilities, and buildings by applying the concept of neo-vernacular architecture.
