Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of overweight in adolescents in the city of Surakarta in 2018 reached 9.98%. Knowledge of balanced nutrition and intake of fruit vegetables is one of the risk factors for overweight. Knowledge is an indirect risk factor for overweight. The content of fiber, vitamins and minerals in fruit vegetables can prevent overweight. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge of balanced nutrition and intake of fruit vegetables and the incidence of overweight in adolescents at SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta. Research method: The study used a cross-sectional design. The sample of this research is teenagers aged 15-17 years totaling 85 respondents. Sampling was selected by simple random sampling technique. Data collection on knowledge of balanced nutrition was obtained by filling out a true-false type of questionnaire with 25 questions that had been tested for validity and reliability, fruit vegetable intake in the last 1 month was obtained from interviews and filling out the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire form and the incidence of overweight was known from the calculation of Body Mass Index by Age based on anthropometric measurements using microtoise and scales. Data analysis using Pearson Product Moment correlation test. Results: The majority of adolescents have knowledge of balanced nutrition in the good category, as much as 55.3%. The majority of adolescent fruit vegetable intake was in the less category, which was 64.7%. Overview of the incidence of overweight in adolescents at SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta, namely 38.8% overweight adolescents and 61.2% not overweight adolescents. The results of the relationship test with Pearson Product Moment between knowledge of balanced nutrition and the incidence of overweight showed p-value = 0.138 and the relationship between fruit vegetable intake and overweight incidence showed p-value = 0.006. Conclusion: There is no relationship between knowledge of balanced nutrition and the incidence of overweight and there is a relationship between intake of fruit vegetables and the incidence of overweight in adolescents at SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta. Further research needs to be done to determine other factors that are at risk of causing overweight in adolescents.
