Abstract

Art and culture are considered to be one of the important sectors that are able to encourage regional development in introducing their regions that reflect their identity. Tasikmalaya is a city in West Java that has a local culture, Sundanese culture. Culture in Tasikmalaya is very less appreciated by the community. In particular, the enthusiasm of the people of Tasikmalaya towards art objects tends to be low and continues to decline; also influenced by the impact of modernization of western culture. In its development, the arts and cultural activities of the city of Tasikmalaya only take place on certain events. Domestic artists and culturalists themselves are still struggling to appreciate their works, so there needs to be a special forum. There is also a need for associations that form large communities to support the continuity of the preservation of regional arts and culture. Many of these things are obstacles in efforts to appreciate and support the development of cultural arts so that they are channeled optimally, which currently have not been able to channel and develop the diversity of cultural arts in the Tasikmalaya region. The Tasikmalaya Neo-vernacular design style was chosen as the design theme so as not to lose the side of Tasikmalaya culture and local wisdom that is applied both physically and non-physically. The theme used in the concept of building mass is taken from the general form of the Sundanese architectural style. It is hoped that with this cultural center, at home and abroad, and especially the community, can be involved in preservation, experience, care, and can enjoy Tasikmalaya's own culture comfortably. Therefore, the existence of the Tasikmalaya Cultural Center serves to introduce the diversity of Sundanese culture, especially Tasikmalaya by providing training on the development of Sundanese arts to the community, especially the people of Tasikmalaya, as well as a means of preserving regional culture and recreational facilities. In the design of the Tasikmalaya Cultural Center, it does not only prioritize the physical appearance of an architecture, but also the content of architectural values with the application of Neo-vernacular in responding to a problem and thinking about conformity with the surrounding environment.
