Abstract

Conflict management is a series of actions and reactions between parties who are inside or outside a conflict. Conflict management includes a process-oriented approach to managing a conflict by considering various types of communication, as well as how to form a solution and resolution. Because the work between editors and reporters is interconnected, disagreements often arise in discussions and the root of the problem is always found in the lack of communication. The purpose of this study is to find out how conflict management is carried out by editors and reporters of the Solopos general daily when there is a conflict in the news production process. This research uses conflict management theory from Thomas H. Killman and Kenneth W Thomas. This research is a qualitative descriptive study whose data were collected using purposive sampling method from 4 informants consisting of 2 editors and 2 reporters who have worked for at least 1 year at PT. Aksara Solopos through interviews. The results of this study indicate that editors and reporters use conflict management strategies of competition, collaboration, compromise, avoidance, and accommodation to resolve a conflict that occurs between editors and reporters.
