Abstract

Background: Myofascial trigger point syndrome is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by the presence of trigger points and referral pain due to continuous muscle contractions that cause muscles to tense up resulting in ischemia in the tissue. This complaint is often felt disturbing but rarely seek treatment because it is considered as a matter of course. . Pain might also lead to functional problems. Aims: The goal of this study was to examine if combining ischemia compression with a muscular energy approach affected the function of the upper trapezius myofascial trigger point condition. Methods: The research design is quasi-experimental with a two-group pretest and posttest procedure. The NDI functional ability measurement tool was utilized on 16 respondents divided into two groups. Results: The paired sample t-test result is p=0.000, whereas the independent sample t-test result is p=0.009. Conclusion: The combination of muscle energy technique to ischemic compression is more effective than ischemic compression alone in improving functional myofascial trigger point syndrome.
