Abstract

This study is a study to analyze the difficulties of writing narrative text in grade 9 SMPN 4 Karanganyar. The analysis of this study are to analyze the difficulties of students in writing narrative texts, and to analyze the students' strategies to overcome difficulties in writing narrative texts. This type of research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were ten students and one English teacher. The data used in the form of interview notes and documents. The technique used to collect data is interviews and class documents in English learning. The validity data used is triangulation data to gain accountable information through a variety of sources. To analyze the data, the researcher used Miles and Hubberman's (1993) model. The results of this study indicate that 80% of students have difficulty in determining content, 70% of students have difficulty in spelling, 70% of students have difficulty in grammar, 80% of students have difficulty in vocabulary, and 80% of students have difficulty in organizational structure.
