Abstract

Kampung Kauman Surakarta is one of the historic villages in the city of Surakarta. At first Kampung Kauman was a place to live for the people / courtiers of the palace to take care of the Great Mosque. Then the courtiers began to make batik for the needs of the palace. So that the existence of the village of Kauman cannot be separated from the history of the Great Mosque of Surakarta and the Surakarta Palace. After the governance of the palace was transferred to the government of the Republic of Indonesia, the relationship between the Kampung Kauman, the Surakarta Grand Mosque and the palace began to stretch and now the Kampung Kauman comes with a new branding as the "Batik Village". As a historic village, Kauman has a lot of undeveloped potential, especially in terms of history and conservation. Therefore, a creative based tourism with community participation is needed so that the conservation of Kampung Kauman can be realized.
