Abstract
The Covid – 19 pandemic that entered Indonesia in 2020 forced most activities to be carried out online, including in terms of education. This changes all forms of communication interactions between teachers and students. Online learning activities have obstacles where there is a lack of communication between teachers and students, and there are obstacles that result in communication that does not form interactive communication during the process of learning activities. This study aims to describe the communication process between teachers and students in online practical learning during the Covid – 19 pandemic at Bhineka Karya Simo Vocational School. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach and is based on the theory of Social Information Processing by Joseph Walther. Research shows that the process of communication through online media carried out by students and teachers at SMK Bhineka Karya is influenced by the time period in carrying out the communication. The results of the study indicate that communication that is carried out in a short period of time does not show good interpersonal closeness. Meanwhile, if online communication is carried out over a long or intense period of time, interpersonal relationships will develop and the learning process will run well, especially in practical material.
