Abstract

Anak berkebutuhan khusus (ABK) or children’s with special needs are entitled to same treatment as other normal children to get education and teaching in school. So students with ABK need the role of teacher interpersonal communication to make children's self-confidence, so that they are able to have confidence in interacting with their environment. Teachers are also required to be more professional responding to growth the mindset of SLB students so that they can attract their attention through interpersonal communication. The purpose of research are to explore about interpersonal communication between teachers and students with special needs in SLB – B YRTRW Surakarta, as well as in growing students' self-confidence. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach described descriptively. Data collection methods used is interviews, observation and documentation, to obtain appropriate information and data related to the object of research from various sources. The results of this research indicate that interpersonal communication between teachers and students plays a role in growing self-confidence of students who have hearing and speech impairments (deaf and speech impaired), especially in SLB – B YRTRW Surakarta run effectively. So that it can form a sense of secure for students and be able to develop self-confidence as well, so that they are able to compete through several championship achievements obtained from city-level competitions and even national levels which are participated by special schools (SLB).
