Abstract

Mathematics is one of the general subjects that exist at all levels of education, from kindergarten to college. This declaration is contained in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2003 concerning National Education Article 37 of the Education System, which states that mathematics is one of the compulsory subjects for elementary and secondary education students. When learning mathematics, students often have difficulty understanding the material, which leads to student errors. and operator error. This is because students do not understand the concept well. The purpose of this study was to describe "errors made by class VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Selogiri in solving one-variable linear equation story problems based on Polya's theory in terms of gender differences." The research design used a descriptive qualitative research approach. According to Stama (2015: 61), qualitative research emphasizes more on understanding and meaning, is closely related to the use of certain values, places more emphasis on process than measurement, explains, interprets, and assigns meaning, is only an explanation used, not relative in meaning. points. & Research using several methods. Qualitative research aims to gain a general understanding of social phenomena from the participant's perspective. This understanding is not influenced in advance, but is obtained by analyzing the social phenomena that are the focus of research. This qualitative research does not use statistics but through data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the cause of the low achievement of indicators of mathematical problem solving ability obtained by students is because some students are not able to make plans, students are not used to and directly work on questions without making plans in advance with sentences, besides that students have difficulty in make plans.
