Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot use insulin effectively. People with diabetes mellitus who are confirmed positive for COVID-19 will experience different levels of symptoms ranging from mild, moderate, severe, and critical symptoms, because people with diabetes mellitus with complications or without complications are more susceptible to COVID-19 infection and are at risk for worsening symptoms. even death. This study aims to determine the relationship between diabetes mellitus and the level of symptoms of COVID-19 in RSUD dr. Moewardi Surakarta. This type of research is quantitative with descriptive correlational method using a cross sectional approach. The study population was patients who were confirmed to be COVID-19 with co-morbidities of diabetes mellitus at RSUD dr. Moewardi Surakarta. The research sample was 73 samples with purposive sampling technique. Collecting data using medical record documentation studies. Analysis of the data using the Spearman rank test, the results obtained were 63 respondents (86.3%) diabetes with complications and experienced moderate symptoms, 27 respondents (37%), with p value = 0.046 and correlation value -0.234. So it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between diabetes mellitus and the level of symptoms of covid-19 at RSUD dr. Moewardi Surakarta with a weak correlation value. Suggestions for complying with government recommendations regarding health protocols and always controlling blood sugar regularly.
