Abstract

Hypertension is thought to be caused by many factors, one of which is caused by stress. Every individual who is experiencing stress must be trying to cope with it, so it is necessary to do something to reduce stress. Things that are done to reduce stress are part of coping. People with hypertension must have confidence in the condition, self-efficacy is needed by people with hypertension to improve their health. This study aims to find out the picture of coping mechanisms and self-efficacy of people with hypertension in Puskesmas Pajang Kota Surakarta. The study used descriptive methods of analytics with a cross-sectional approach. Samples are taken by non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method that determines sample discovery when all populations fall within the inclusion criteria specified by the researcher. The size of the sample used was 80 respondents who checked themselves into the Surakarta City Pajang Health Center. The study used the Brief COPE (Coping Orientation to Problem Experienced) questionnaire and self-efficacy questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that most people with hypertension had maladaptive coping mechanisms of 72 respondents (90%) and high self-efficacy as many as 68 respondents (85%).
